What Could be Next

Timing and coordination are important issues when pursuing grants or seeking the completion of an environmental or education project.  Matching needs with resources is the key for successful completion of any project. Below are some proposed projects or endeavors that have been identified as future projects for consideration by our Foundation.

  •        Purple loose strife (beetle ) plant control.  Further promote introduction of the beetle that controls purple loose strife. Make available for private and public lands.

  •       Small mitigation ponds, throughout county, fishing access.  These ponds were created as mitigation projects when other lands were environmentally impacted due to development.  Create access and pan fish opportunities for the public.

  •       Seneca Hill Manor fishing pond accessSeneca Hill Manor has a couple of ponds that were created during construction for water controls. These ponds could be developed for fish and fishing access for the residents and visitors of Seneca Manor.  (Seneca Manor has a senior citizen community and care center.)

  •       Surplus Canal Lands acquisition by County or DEC.  The State Canal Corporation has a list of "surplus lands" that ownership /  controls could be transferred to other public agencies. some of this land is in Oswego County and offer potential outdoor recreational opportunities.

  •       Swamp restoration (example; amphibious back hoe, Deer Creek Marsh)  Aging swamps and marshes as a natural process fill in and lose their carrying capacity. Some of this filling in process has been accelerated as a result of mans activity, example Lake Ontario water level control.  Man has the ability to reclaim these swamps and marsh lands.

  •       Forester Cutter for DEC http://www.bobcat.com/attachments/forestry_cutter This machine is capable of taking transitional lands and restoring it so that it better serves our environmental habitat.  Cost could be in excess of $90,000.

  •       Continue to Find funding sources and partners to expand the National Archery in the School Programs. (research stage, no new active grant application at this time)

Again these projects can only be stated as possible projects under consideration at this time.

Do you have an issue or project that could be included in the above list?

Do you have a resource that could help?

Are you or your group looking for help with your project?
