Forest Ranger FWMB Report
 

Activity Period October 2 – December 10, 2008

 

Region 7 encompasses nine counties and exceeds 6,700square miles in area, Six Forest Rangers, one Lieutenant and one Captain provide environmental protection on over 274,000 acres of state lands within Region 7.

General Activities

Camping on state lands – Forest rangers issued 48 camping permits and made 106 occupied campsite inspections during this period.

Region 7 (R7) Forest rangers conducted 21 Temporary Revocable Permit / Timber Harvest Inspections on state land.

R7 Rangers inspected 25 miles of state boundary line for potential timber trespass and conducted approximately 170 miles of foot patrol on state land.

Search & Rescue

R7 Rangers worked on four searches, one rescue and one fatal recovery during this period either as lead agency or as assisting other police agencies.

Wildfire/Prescribed Fire

No wildfires or prescribed fires were reported during this period.

Law Enforcement

R7 Rangers provided 5 assists to other police agencies and issued 141 tickets during this period. Ninety-three tickets were related to violations of the Environmental Conservation Law or Title 6 of the NY Codes of Rules and Regulations, forty tickets were related to violations of the Vehicle & Traffic Law ( primarily related to ATV abuses of public lands) and eight tickets were issued for violations of Parks & Recreation Law.

Public Outreach

Forest rangers provided:

- Two wildfire prevention and training courses to 170 persons

- Three search & rescue courses, training 38 volunteers

- Two job fair presentations reaching 32 persons
